“Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.” – Oprah Winfrey

Being a caregiver can be an isolating experience, and the support system around those who are giving the care may struggle to understand what’s happening.  Caregivers may not take the time to maintain the friendships they need, resulting in deeper feelings of isolation.

Friendships must be kept strong, especially in moments such as these. Caregivers, we encourage you to be mindful and vigilant about keeping these connections strong.  Take the time to communicate and share what’s happening, and friends, you have to fight to stay empathetic and encouraging.

The key in both positions is not to judge, take things personally, and above all, make the effort to stay connected.
