We usually don’t plan for a brain disease or disorder to affect a loved one.  If we were able to control each detail of life, we might feel safer, but the magic is often in the unknown, the beauty is in the surprises, and the grace is in the unexpected moments.  

As a caregiver, it may take time to accept and cope with this new reality, however making the deliberate commitment to caregiving and regularly carrying out this commitment through our actions, efforts, decisions and intentions has a deep impact.  Think about what type of caregiver you strive to be. If it helps, write it down and continually remind yourself of your commitment.

When we stay focused and very clear on the commitment we’ve made, we find the strength and stamina to carry us through whatever challenges may come our way.  We can feel a sense of accomplishment when we stay faithful to our intentions and notice our growth as a person through our role as a caregiver.
